What is Dogecoin?

Dogecoin (DOGE) is based on the Internet meme "doge" and features a Shiba Inu on its logo. In December 2013, Billy Markus from Oregon and Jackson Palmer from Australia forked Litecoin to create the open-source digital currency.

Dogecoin's creators envisioned it as a lighthearted cryptocurrency that would have a broader appeal than the core Bitcoin audience since it was based on a dog meme. Dogecoin is Tesla CEO Elon Musk's favorite cryptocurrency, according to several tweets he has posted on social media over recent months.

How do you mine DOGE?

Bitcoin's proof-of-work protocol differs from that of Dogecoin in several ways, including using Scrypt technology. Dogecoin also has a block time of 1 minute, and its total supply is uncapped, so there is no limit to how many can be mined. Dogecoin can be mined solo or through mining pools. The digital currency can be mined on Windows, Mac, or Linux, and with a GPU. As of 2014, Litecoin can also be mined using the same process as Dogecoin, as the two processes have been merged.

What can DOGE be used for?

Dogecoin is used primarily as a tipping system on Reddit and Twitter to reward quality content creation. A Dogecoin faucet is a Dogecoin service that allows you to get your Dogecoin from a peer to peer network. Dogecoin faucets are websites that will give you a small amount of Dogecoin for free as an introduction to the currency, so that you can get involved in Dogecoin communities.
