The end of last week was full of news regarding celebrities’ investment on cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

First, the singer Mariah Carey is taking on an initiative to increase people’s interest in crypto and, at the same time, helping Non-Government Organizations as well.

Almost simultaneously, the news that the fashion mogul Paris Hilton introduced some of her NFTs into Sotheby’s Multiverse marketplace also hit the media.

Both initiatives can have a huge impact on the crypto universe since it brings more attention to the segment, making a good portion of people trust more in digital currencies and assets.

Like reported by the Morning Consultant this semester, 45% of crypto owners pay attention to celebrities for investment advice and this can lead up to big changes in the cryptocurrency market.

So, even though some enthusiasts don’t think that’s a good reference, they can’t deny the impact that celebrities and digital influencers have on the world’s populace.

Worldwide famous singer is donating BTC as incentive

Mariah Carey tweeted that she is offering $20 in free bitcoin via her partnered cryptocurrency exchange.

She also explained that a portion of people’s trade will go toward Black Girls Code, a non-profit helping to increase the number of women of color in the digital space,” said Carey.

“Did you know that you don’t need to buy a whole bitcoin to invest? In fact, you can buy as little as $5 to get started.”

That’s how Carey explained what she learned about crypto from free educational resources provided by her partner exchange Gemini and companies like Cryptopedia.

The aim of the singer’s initiative is to empower girls of color to become innovators in STEM [Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics] fields.

In order to participate, she explained that the offer is only for new users and verification is required, but anyone who signs up for an account at Gemini using her referral code will get $20 in free bitcoin on their first investment.

Paris Hilton and Sotheby’s NFT Marketplace

The famous auction house Sotheby’s entered the NFT’s marketplace in what they called the “Sotheby’s Metaverse”.

And one of the first big names that got onboard was Paris Hilton.

She tweeted about her new listing in the Sotheby’s Metaverse NFT marketplace on October 19 talking about her Natively Digital artwork introduced into the marketplace.
